IMPROVISING DURING AN OUTDOOR EMERGENCY $35

 We face many dangers while traveling in the back country. Many hikers are well prepared to treat minor injuries, and work around minor set-backs during an outdoor adventure. However, there will be times that you will be faced with an unforeseen circumstance and you might find yourself unprepared to handle the situation. This course is designed to make you more aware of possible dangers, and how to use what you have immediately available to handle the situation and survive the ordeal.


This course will cover:


-Common Dangers in the Outdoors

-Improvised Shelter

-Water purification

-Improvised first aid

-How will you get found?

INTERMEDIATE NAVIGATION $45

Even if you do not plan on having to use your map and compass to navigate a day hike, it is helpful to know how to use them, especially in an emergency situation. A map and a compass were designed to be used simultaneously. This course is designed to teach you to use a map and compass together to navigate in the field.  If you are not comfortable with the basics of a map and compass, please attend our “Map and Compass Basics course”. At the end of the intermediate course you will have a basic understanding of how to locate your position, and navigate between two points while using a map and compass together.

BASIC FOOD PREP & PLANNING $35

 What do you pack for a multi-day adventure, and how do you prepare it? During a day hike it is easy to throw together a simple lunch or snack, but if you plan on being out for more than 24 hours you will need to create a meal plan. This course is designed to teach you how to dehydrate your own food to save money, how to store and cook your food on the trail, how to choose store bought items for easy consumption, and how to plan your menu. Note: A special Lunch will be provided for this class!

​All too often eager hikers hit the trail with the best of intentions, and find themselves lost or injured, and ill prepared for the dangers in the outdoors. This course is designed to help you become familiar with what to pack for a day hike, and how to be prepared to wait for rescue. At the end of this course you will feel comfortable choosing the contents of your pack, and planning ahead for an unexpected night in the outdoors.

MAP & COMPASS BASICS $35

Learning to use a map and compass to navigate can be extremely technical and overwhelming for someone who has never used these tools in the field. This course is designed to introduce the basics of map and compass navigation. At the end of this workshop you will have a strong foundation to advance to our intermediate navigation course.

CAMP SET-UP & FIRE CRAFT $55

After a long day of pounding the trail, you will be eager to set up camp and may not be aware of the dangers in your surroundings. Perhaps you’ve never set up a tent, built a fire, or thought about the need to store your food to keep bears and other animals out of camp? This course is designed to teach you how to choose a proper camp spot, to give you the opportunity to set up a tent, and to teach you how to properly hang your food to avoid attracting dangerous encounters with animals and pesky rodents. You will also learn how to properly build a fire with minimal supplies. (note: we will not be covering primitive fire-craft such as bow-drills or other friction devices)

This is an all day course and Lunch will be provided for Participants

-Choosing a safe camp spot

-Tent and shelter set up

-Fire craft (building/starting a fire)

-How to properly hang a food bag
